Persevere through the Storm

Guest post by Don Barefoot and Buck Jacobs of C12 Group - Greetings in Christ, from the bloodied, but unbowed, frontlines of business! The longest recessionary economic climate since the early 1930s continues to challenge most business Owners and CEOs, as continuing stagnation tests our endurance, patience, cash reserves, creativity, discipline, and faith. In a time when our Federal government seems intent on making the same ‘big brother’ excessive spending mistakes as those made in the 1930s – when economic stagnation extended well beyond the time period necessary for a ‘market correction’ – it’s tempting for many business leaders to either ‘throw in the towel’ or to ‘diversify’ to generate short-term sales. Instead, we at C12 generally advocate making the tough stewardship decisions necessary to weather the storm and retain the keys to the business, while becoming more excellent in our current focus and God-given calling. On an overall statistical basis, we know that long-term C12 members enjoy a much greater business survival rate, as well as increased annual growth, profitability, and eternal impact, when compared to their marketplace peers.

By engaging in an intentional process of lifelong learning, peer sharpening, and accountability – consistent with Biblical principles and priorities, business ‘best practices,’ and prayerful submission – C12 members are continually encouraged and equipped to outperform their peers in good and bad times. For this reason, and God’s providence, C12 has continued to grow steadily through the past two difficult economic years. By remaining mindful of our calling to excellence and perseverance under the loving hand of our sovereign Lord, our members are more often able to ‘stay in the saddle’ and weather economic storms while continuing to minister to those they touch through business.

During the next two months, we have the privilege of participating in two Christian business conferences that will put ‘wind in your sails’ if you’re finding yourself tired of the battle and in need of inspiration and practical ideas. C12 is providing four speakers at the upcoming 31st annual FCCI International Conference in Tucson, AZ on 9/26-30. Also, C12’s Area Chairs in the NC/SC/VA region are hosting a C12 Mid-Atlantic Regional Leaders Conference in Greensboro, NC on 11/4-5. Each of these events are designed to provide ‘living water’ in the current economic desert, and give attendees a sense for the refreshment, renewal, and sharpening enjoyed each month by C12 members across the country. We’re currently operating 100 groups across 60 U.S. metro areas. We are pleased to be launching next month in Birmingham, Alabama and continue to seek those that the Lord has called and gifted to become C12 Area Chairs and franchisees in many other metro areas across North America.

Yours in Christ, and in the battle,
