Former ServiceMaster CEO Pollard Recognized with Business as Mission Award

Long-time Wheaton, IL resident and retired ServiceMaster CEO C. William Pollard recently received the Robert A. Fulton award for excellence in Business-as-Mission. Pollard was honored at a gala event on the campus of Gordon College in the Boston area on November 10th. Sponsored by Wheaton, IL based nonprofit Integra Ventures USA, the Fulton award is presented to an outstanding community leader adept at integrating personal faith in the work place internationally. Pollard was chosen because of his proactive efforts in this arena.

“Bill Pollard is an outstanding example of a dedicated Christian in the marketplace,” noted Integra president Bob Kuhlman. “Again and again those I talk with who know him in business comment about his unswerving commitment to ethics and integrity, and his deep devotion to implementing Christian ideals on the job.” Pollard worked for ServiceMaster for more than 25 years, eventually becoming chairman and chief executive officer of the corporation.

Robert Fulton, for whom the award is named, is also a businessman of note. Fulton launched Web Industries, a successful contract manufacturing operation in 1969. Today Web has locations in five states and more than 300 employees. Mr. Fulton, who from the outset oriented Web’s operations toward quality customer care and attentive concern for employees, has often hired ex-convicts to work in his plants, as a practical implementation of his faith convictions in the marketplace. The award is an effort to underscore Fulton’s life conviction that there is no separation between what one truly believes and what one does.

Integra Ventures, launched in 1995, was a natural outgrowth of Fulton’s business career. The goal was to help those who had lived with decades of failed government controlled economic planning learn how to develop and run profitable businesses in a market environment. The organization is dedicated to launching ethical businesses which impact society and change communities by providing training and mentoring to aspiring entrepreneurs. Its staff facilitates access to capital through loans and equity positions in operations judged likely to succeed. Since inception, more than several thousand people have attended Integra training seminars across Eastern Europe. More than $2 million has been disbursed in loans resulting in the launch of hundreds of businesses. To learn more about Integra, visit http://www.integrausa.org/.
